bon anivese nesans shouted his friends. They were happy that he had received the ball for his birthday. It would bounce so much better than the rag ball they usually played with. At lunch, because it was his special day, Estelle, the lunch lady, would have a cookie for him.

He wished everyday was his birthday. He liked going to school – especially to see his friends. Though he did not like math he knew that he would need it if he wanted to be a farmer and have his own business.The community was talking about planting trees and growing different crops. Mamman was hopeful that it would be a good way to earn extra money. He wanted one day to do that as well. The math would be useful when you brought vegetables to market. He dreamt of becoming a successful businessman and taking care of Mamman.

He was proud of his sister Joelle. She was 13 years old and a very good student. Mamaman wanted her to study instead of going away and becoming a maid. They could use the money, but the church was helping them with the tuition. Joelle wanted to become a nurse. Because of helping hugs he knew he and Joelle were part of Haiti’s future.
